Meet Casey Jennings! She's Tablespoon's Senior Accountant. We are excited to tell you more about her and why she loves working at Tablespoon.

Where are you from?

I'm in Greenville, SC, but I've lived all over the Southeast. I'm a "restaurant brat," meaning my father was a restaurant manager or district manager my entire childhood. We moved wherever the job took us. When I graduated high school, I lived in Jacksonville, FL, but I spent several of my younger years in Mobile, AL.

Tell me about your role.

I am a Senior Accountant on our Managed Accounting Services (MAS) team. In my role, I oversee a variety of key financial processes to keep things running smoothly for our clients. I lead the period-end close process for my group of clients, which includes preparing draft financial statements and analyzing financial and operational data to look for any variances or irregularities. I work closely with my clients to resolve discrepancies and provide support for any accounting inquiries they may have. In addition, I manage the sales and beverage tax filings to keep clients in compliance with local regulations. A big part of my daily routine involves overseeing the sales and cash reconciliation process. I also play a key role in training our Staff Accountants, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed. At the end of the day, my goal is to provide exceptional service and support to both our clients and our internal team.

What's your background, and why did you join Tablespoon?

I worked in public accounting for the first two years of my career. I started as a staff accountant in the IT Advisory practice, testing internal controls for clients in industries such as healthcare, technology, and banking. After that, I joined a group of dental practices as their internal Senior Accountant, where I mainly handled accounts payable and vendor management. One of the highlights of that role was leading the implementation of Sage Intacct, transitioning the company from QuickBooks to a more robust system that allowed for more detailed financial reporting.

By the end of 2022, I was ready for a change. I wanted more flexibility and the option to work either fully remote or in a hybrid setting. When I came across Tablespoon, I was really excited to meet Andy, Carrie, and the rest of the team. This fantastic company is growing quickly, and I saw an opportunity to be part of that growth. The fact that I'd still be using Sage Intacct in my new role was a huge plus!

How has your restaurant experience helped your work with Tablespoon?

I worked as both a server and bartender throughout my six years of college and grad school, so I'm very familiar with the front-end of various POS systems. This hands-on experience has given me a solid understanding of front-end operations in the restaurant industry and how they translate to our side. Additionally, my knowledge of the industry allows me to anticipate factors such as higher sales days and identify which costs should be kept lower.

What do you love most about your time at Tablespoon?

I love the culture here. We have an amazing team, and being remote allows us to find fun ways to connect in our virtual workplace. We’ve started hosting a Kahoot competition every Friday, and let’s just say I’ve got a few trophies under my belt! We also take a trip to Dallas each year, and I’ve enjoyed touring the city and connecting with my coworkers in person.

What's your favorite restaurant?

Carrabba’s Italian Grill. It's nostalgic for me, as my dad worked for Carrabba's for several years. I grew up on that bread and still get the Chicken Marsala almost every time.
